Bridgeville lies in the Sussex County of Delaware, United States. According to the United States Census Bureau, the total covered area of the city is only 0.8 square miles. Moreover, the total population of the area is 2,048. The population density of this city is 2560 people per square kilometer. Furthermore, the racial makeup is 55.85% White, 31.55% African Americans, and the rest of them belong to other races.

The city of Bridgeville has historical significance. It is regarded as the oldest community in the western part of the Sussex County. The land transactions of the past signify that it was an agricultural community during the past years. In the 19th century, a group of town-houses was built along the Main Street. This unique settlement was called "Bridge Branch," which, in 1730, was crossed by a bridge.

In 1804, the community established their first post office. Moreover, in 1810, the city got recognition, and it finally came into being when the Act of Assembly was passed. This gave birth to a new city called "Bridgeville." The earliest industries of this area were tanyard, charcoal furnace, water-powered mill, and a fruit drying business. This grew more when the railroad was made in Bridgeville during the year 1856. The town was laid down by William Canon.

Bridgeville was named after a bridge built in 1730, which was located on the Nanticoke River. Many historical districts named Bridgeville Public Library, Old Bridgeville Fire-House, and Sudler House are registered on the National Register for Historic Places.
