During the eighteenth century, present-day Laurel was a Nanticoke Indian settlement known as Broad Creek town. This settlement was constructed on Bachelor’s Delight and Greenland in 1711. This happened when the Government of Maryland claimed this part of Delaware for Nanticoke Indians.

However, the settlers relocated to Western Pennsylvania within 50 years. The present city was laid along the Broad Creek during 1790s. This was named after the laurel bushes that grew nearby. This shows that the city of Laurens has a rich historical background. Moreover, many well-known historical sites are also present here. The most famous ones include Old Christ Church, Laurel Historic District, and Stanley Potato House. All these are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hot summers characterize the climate of this region, and mild to cool winters. The high in July is about 90 degrees. However, in the winters the temperature can drop to 32 degrees. This can make life a bit difficult for some people. Similarly, the city enjoys enough rainfall and people can go for picnics during this period. It receives 44 inches of rainfall every year.
